AUSTRALIA
1918 1d carmine-rose KGV Head (shade = G30) with the variety ‘die II substituted cliché [advanced state]’ [position = IV/34], unused – without gum, no thins, tears or bends. Has a Starling certificate.
This is the late state of the substituted cliché, showing a great deal of deterioration of the soft copper that was used to make the units that replaced the rusted clichés. This wear of the substituted unit has resulted in the top of the crown being completely worn away and the corners of the frames becoming very rounded. This state is very rare in unused condition.
